In the municipality of Enontekiö, the comprehensive schools are Hetta Comprehensive School (years 0–9), Kilpisjärvi School (years 0–9), and Karesuvanto School (years 0–6). Basic education is provided in Finnish and Northern Sámi, according to the guardian's choice.

For children with permanent residence in Finland, compulsory education begins in the year they turn seven. Compulsory education ends when the student turns 18 or when they complete a secondary education qualification (matriculation examination or vocational qualification), or an equivalent foreign education before their 18th birthday.
