The snowmobile tracks that the municipality maintains are generally available whenever snow and ice conditions permit. For the 2024–2025 season, ice areas will be marked as soon as weather conditions permit.

The municipality maintains the Hetta-Muonio track and the Hetta-Palojoki section.

A track permit is required for the tracks maintained by the Finnish Forest and Park Service and the association of Kilpisjärven Ladut ry. Read more: eraluvat.fi, kilpisjarvenladut.fi. The tracks maintained by the Finnish Forest and Park Service will be marked during spring 2025.

Driving on all routes is at your own risk!

Summer trails

The summer trail network serves hikers, trekkers, trail runners, and mountain bikers. The routes’ difficulty levels vary from short nature trails for the whole family to challenging treks in rugged wilderness.

The most popular destinations in the area include the Hetta-Pallas hiking trail. The Pöyrisjärvi wilderness, The Käsivarasi wilderness and the Tarvantovaara wilderness are also popular hiking and mountain biking destinations.

There are routes suitable for day trips close to the Saana fell in Kilpisjärvi and the Malla Nature Park. Also in Hetta, near the Fell Lapland Visitor Centre and Jyppyrä, there are marked day trip routes of varying lengths.
